Every year, the Advertising Association of Winnipeg offers the industry a sneak peek of the Cannes Lions International Advertising Awards. Out of the many memorable ads this year, we’ve noted some of our favourites below. Enjoy.
My pick is the Colgate ‘Water Resource Saving’ spot. It’s the first advertisement to have successfully inspired me to re-think how I use water. Turn off your taps!
I enjoy a funny, quirky commercial and these two from Valmano.de were right up my alley. They’re a little creepy, but have delightful music. And they certainly have me wanting to wear the jewelry!
A highlight of my evening was watching a colleague and his wife (who are recent, first-time parents) avoid eye contact through the final 20 seconds of this Coke Life ad from Argentina.
Adam is a big fan of the same spot as Erik.
I loved the Marmite Rescue spot. Although I have no idea what Marmite is, we all have that jar of something hiding in the back of our kitchen cupboards.
My favourite of the night is from Promart Homecenter. Just goes to show that you can tell a heartwarming story without a single line of dialogue.
It was too hard to pick a favourite, but I sure thought the Water Is Life ad was sweet ….
From a production view in managing a budget, I think this ad from Mercedes Benz made good use of dollars to convey the idea:

The “Sound of Honda” spot was like watching the ghost of Ayrton Senna race the Japanese Grand Prix.
