OUR 2015 CANNES PICKS

It’s that time of year again. When a cheerful spirit falls over the city like fresh, white snow. When minds are filled with a childlike sense of anticipation, and hearts are filled with a wonderful winter feeling.

Yes. It’s time to watch the winning commercials from the Cannes Lions International Advertising Awards. Every year, the Advertising Association of Winnipeg gives the industry a preview of the world’s best spots. We watch so we can learn and be inspired and evaluate. And, so we can share with you. We’ve listed some of our favourites below.

Paul

A brilliant script that frames the ocean as a movie character (the antagonist? anti-hero?). The monologue is haunting.

Jordan

I loved the S7 Airlines ad. It was funny, but on a deeper level, it made me reconsider what I thought to be ‘realistic’. This spot made me wonder if maybe I was stifling my own imagination or wasn’t dreaming big enough. It’s amazing when an ad can help you see your own life in a different, inspiring light. I want to see the world, now. All of it. So, see ya!

Kim

This spot was unbelievably heart wrenching, touching, caring, sad, loving and inspiring. Really makes you think twice about donating your organs.

Erik

Five minutes before this ad showed, the audience was in tears for an ad where a kid cleaned his room and did his freakin’ chores:

Matt

My favourite for the night was this drinking and driving PSA from Quebec. Super powerful. Shows the consequences without the need for a voiceover or supers throughout the spot.
