A summary of recent stories about us in the news

Applied Arts Wire featured a story on the success of the University of Manitoba Trailblazer campaign in light of our client’s eight wins at an annual awards program that recognizes excellence in post-secondary education marketing and communications. A story about the campaign also appeared in The Winnipeg Free Press.

It was a week of celebrations and goodbyes we’ll never forget. Veteran media buyer Margot Brown retired recently after 45 years in the industry, and in addition to a soiree recognizing her contributions to the Canadian media buying landscape, we made sure she got some earned media, too. Stories appeared in Marketing Magazine, Winnipeg’s Media Maven Margot Brown Calls it a Career and in Media in Canada, with the story Margot Brown Retiring. At the same time, The Globe and Mail was working on a  story in anticipation of the return of the latest season of Mad Men and spoke with Margot about what it was like to be a woman in the Canadian advertising industry in the 1960s.

The Globe also asked Peter George to contribute to ‘The Challenge’, a weekly business feature where experts weigh in on a situation a small or medium-sized company is facing. See Peter’s take on what a company can do when another one has a similar name in Branding bind: how far to go to protect a company name. The story led to another request, this time  by Telus Talks Business (a sponsor of ‘The Challenge’), who asked Peter to expand on the issue for their national blog.

Peter was also honoured in late February in New York City for his long-term commitment and work on the Manitoba Opera board with the National Opera Directors Recognition Award.

Our PR department helped long-time MCG client the Winnipeg Football Club make headlines with an honour from the Canadian Football League. The inaugural Best Marketing & Ticket Campaign Award recognizes the CFL club with the most outstanding marketing and ticketing success from the previous seasonChrisD and (see snapshot below) each posted a synopsis of the award as well as a piece of creative. CBC Radio Winnipeg announced the award on its local newscast and from the CBC National Radio Sportsdesk. The announcement generated a good deal of activity on Twitter as well.

Account coordinator Kathryn Patrick was invited to speak to her alma mater, the Asper School of Business, about what it’s like to work at an ad agency. She earned her own little corner of social media buzz when photos from the classroom were shared on Twitter and Facebook.

Kathryn is also an up-and-coming soprano. Her chorus debut in the upcoming performance Manitoba Opera’s The Daughter of the Regiment gave the agency double the fun, especially since Manitoba Opera is our long-term client. And here’s another full circle moment: Kathryn is also one of our account coordinators for MO.

Lastly, an Instagram photo our Director of PR and Social Media, Tamara Bodi, snapped from her office window and tweeted one foggy afternoon made it onto GlobalTV Winnipeg’s supper hour news.
