Top honours for Trailblazers

The Trailblazer campaign for the University of Manitoba has earned nine more CASE Communications Awards, including two grand golds. The university was also honoured with the prestigious 2013 Virginia Carter Smith Grand Crystal Award, which recognizes the year’s most outstanding communications program and is the highest honour for a post-secondary institution marketing campaign in the CASE District VIII.

The jury noted that the Trailblazer brand campaign excels at integrating a range of platforms and university communities, including student life, events, recruitment and merchandise.

The Trailblazer campaign celebrates the geographic and human landscape of Manitoba and the transformative power of the province’s largest university – that where we are shapes who we are.

“Two years after the launch of the Trailblazer campaign, we’re thrilled to watch it continue to transform the image of the university,” said MCG CEO and president, Peter George.

This recent wave of awards reflects work from 2012, where the campaign featured ads and took on a new life in airport and washroom installations and on billboards that literally underwent a metamorphosis over the course of weeks. A fulfilment website also brought traffic back to the U of M site.

The first phase of the Trailblazer campaign was launched in spring 2011 with a national ad campaign. It was followed by a student recruitment campaign that fall.

During the past 12 months, the University of Manitoba has received in all 26 awards for its marketing and communications efforts. CASE, or Council for the Advancement and Support of Education Communications Awards, are an annual program that recognize excellence in marketing and communications. The awards program is highly competitive and this year received an astounding 550 entries.
