We’re Doing the Commuter Challenge!

Posted on June 1, 2012

Next week is the Commuter Challenge, a campaign that encourages Canadians to leave their cars at home and opt for active and sustainable transportation. This year, the national event coincides with Canadian Environment Week (June 3 – 9). As of May 31, 1,279 workplaces representing over 520,000 employees had registered to participate.

At MCG, our goal is to get staff and friends to walk, bike, skate, bus, scoot and carpool for at least just one day. Given the fact that we’re big fans of Winnipeg’s Active Transportation Network and the new Rapid Transit service, we’re aiming high!

UPDATE

The Commuter Challenge week is now over. But we’re very pleased with our efforts! Collectively, MCG carpooled, bused, biked and walked its way to 605 fewer car kilometres! In all, we burned 15,376 calories, saved 50 litres of fuel and avoided 113.62 kg of CO2 emissions. #GoTeamMCG!

MCG’s Natalie Van Rosmalen, Erik Athavale, Kiirsten May, Patrick Faucher and Tyler Magee.

On a related note, MCG Account Director, Erik Athavale, will be participating in two charitable cycling tours this summer – one on behalf of Habitat for Humanity and one on behalf of the MS Society. If you are interested in making a pledge in support of Erik’s rides, you can do so online via the links directly above.
